In today’s business world, the ability to communicate effectively and assertively is a critical necessity for any leader. Recently, I taught the Postgraduate Program in Leadership and People Development at the @UdG University of Girona and want to share some key learnings.

This course is designed for:

– Professionals who lead teams
– Individuals looking to develop communication and leadership skills

Assertiveness was a key topic. In the business environment, assertiveness is essential because:

-If you don’t communicate, your ideas go unnoticed
-If you communicate poorly, you can create conflicts

We focused on identifying barriers to assertive communication, developing strategies to express thoughts clearly and respectfully, and practicing intensively in real-life situations. Practice was the heart of the learning experience, with exercises, simulations, and role-playing that helped participants handle conflicts and communicate confidently.

This experience reaffirmed my conviction that assertiveness transforms team dynamics and company success.

One of my favorite roles is being the director of the RIEEB – Red Internacional de Educación Emocional y Bienestar (International Network of Emotional Education and Wellbeing) Postgraduate Program in Coaching and Emotional Leadership, whose first edition concludes this week.

For me, directing this program is more than just a job; it’s a true passion.

In this program, we have the opportunity to explore and delve into the world of coaching and emotional leadership, two crucial areas for personal and professional growth in today’s world.

Our approach focuses not only on developing technical skills but also on cultivating a deep understanding of ourselves and others. Through a combination of theory, practice, and reflection, we provide our students with the tools and support necessary to become emotionally intelligent and effective coaches and leaders.

What I’m most passionate about in this graduate program is witnessing our students grow and flourish throughout their journey. From day one, we encourage them to explore their authenticity, challenge themselves, and open up to new ways of thinking and acting. It’s amazing to witness their transformation and see how they apply what they’ve learned in their professional career and personal life.
